In my work, I attempt to use an inclusive approach. Often I include art-historical references such as Synthetic Cubism and Abstract Expressionism which I use not as appropriations but for their playful effects and humour.

I search for a motif, something that gets the painting going, by making sets of unstable marks and jarring juxtapositions. From these, interactions and correspondences appear.

There are often ghosts of recognisable objects in the marks, and I often enjoy making comparisons and connections between them and between the abstract and representational ideas they might provoke.

Recently I've been using the paint like I'm plastering a wall from left to right and thick and thin as if I were writing in an unknown language with bright colorful mud.
